December 17th, 2001 Dr Krzysztof Walczak participated in the meeting of the partners of the european project PISTE which was held in Brussels (Belgium).

December 17th, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Willy Picard visited the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD), the biggest research institution for information and communication technology within Europe. It is a member the Hermann of Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers (HGF). GMD is a non-profit, limited liability private company (GmbH). Its shareholders are the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal States of North Rhine Westphalia, Hesse and Berlin. GMD's headquarters are in Sankt Augustin, Schloss Birlinghoven. November 19th, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Sergiusz Strykowski participated in the Awarding Ceremony of the European Logistics Association Award for Logistics Excellence 2001. This event, under the patronage of Loyola de Palacio, Vice-president of the EU Commission and EU Commissioner for Transport an Energy, was held in Brussels. The European Logistics Association (ELA) is holding, as every year, the Award for the Logistic Excellence, which wishes to highlight the best enterprise initiative of the year, taking into account the innovation, quality, and the improvement in the supply chain. In the current edition of ELA Award 2001 eighteen teams from all Europe participated. The Department of Information Technology and Philips Lighting Poland S.A. submitted jointly a project entitled "e-MAX Internet e-Procurement System for International Business of Philips Lighting Poland S.A." October 3rd, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 1st IFIP International Conference on E-commerce, E-business, and E-government sponsored by the three IFIP committees TC6, TC8, and TC11. The I3E Conference was held in Zurich. It provides a forum for users, engineers, and scientists in academia, industry, and government to present their latest findings in e-commerce, e-business, or e-government applications and the underlying technology to support those applications. September 17th, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Oskar Huminiecki participated in the 3rd IFIP WG 6.1 International Working Conference on Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems DAIS'2001 which was held in Cracow. DAIS denotes a series of international working conferences on distributed applications and interoperable systems, sponsored by the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP). The conference program has always aimed at presenting the state of the art in research concerning distributed and interoperable systems. In this topical research area much activity is currently in progress, with innovating contributions arising regularly. The DAIS series of conferences is one of the main international forums where these important findings are reported. Prof. Cellary was a member of DAIS Program Committee. July 12th, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in Warsaw in the launch of the Human Development Report (HDR) entitled Making new technologies work for human development, edited by United Nations Development Programme. Every year since 1990 the UNDP has commissioned the Human Development Report by an independent team of experts to explore major issues of global concern. The Report also includes, for the first time, a Technology Achievement Index (TAI). The index ranks 72 countries in terms of their overall achievement in creating and using technology. June 22nd, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary attended the International Conference of the Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum (Polish Humboldt Association) in Wroclaw. The main topic of the conference was Science and Education in Global Information Society in the Age of European Integration. Prof. Cellary presented an invited lecture entitled Global Information Society - a Challenge for Science and Education. Some 70 Humboldt Clubs and Associations have been founded in 40 countries since 1962 with the aim of cultivating vocational, specialist and personal contacts between former Humboldt guest-researchers. They maintain close contact with the Humboldt Foundation and assist, for example, in arranging Humboldt colloquia and meetings abroad. June 18th, 2001 President of the Republic of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski opened the computer laboratory - First Prize won by DIT in the contest entitled Internet Economy in Polish Universities. The opening ceremony was conducted by Rector of the Poznan University of Economics, Professor Emil Panek. At the ceremony participated also invited guests: representatives of sponsors, industry, local administration, PUE research staff and PUE students. Computer laboratory was opened virtually: the opening ceremony took place at PUE Main Building which was connected with DIT laboratory via Internet with high speed and high quality devices to videoconferences. June 12th, 2001 Krzysztof Walczak publicly defended his Ph.D. dissertation entitled Database Modeling of Virtual Reality at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the Technical University of Gdansk. The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Wojciech Cellary.

June 5th, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary had a keynote speech on Electronic Business at the 9th Polish Electronic Data Interchange - Electronic Commerce Conference EDI-EC 2001. The conference was held at the Dobieszkow Hotel near Lodz. After the conference Prof. Cellary was interviewed by local TV about the significance of electronic commerce in modern economy. May 31st, 2001 Results of the Golden Mouse Contest announced! This was the second edition of the contest entitled Golden Mouse open for students of the 1st year of studies at the Management Faculty of the Poznan University of Economics. The purpose of the contest is to reward the best web site on business issues created by students. The jury consisted of DIT members and representatives of business sponsors. The main criteria of the evaluation were: business model, quality of design and technical reliability. This year over 600 web sites were submitted. The prizes (a computer with a monitor, scanner, color printer, keyboards, mice and mobile phones) were founded by Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy S.A. and Internet Financial Service Expander.pl. The results were announced during the Reward Ceremony conducted by Prof. W. Cellary in the presence of the representatives of sponsors and the president of the university. The ceremony was filmed by the regional television. The First Prize won Szymon Kopiejewski for the web site devoted to teleworking. May 28th, 2001 Oskar Huminiecki, Wojciech Wiza and Willy Picard participated at the 6th Seminar organized by The Viadrina European University and The Poznan University of Economics in Lubniewice. The main goal of these seminars was to present research results of young staff from both schools. Our young researchers presented three papers: Oskar Huminiecki - Electronic Authentication, Wojciech Wiza - Web-search Engines - State of the Art, Willy Picard - Survey of e-Contract Negotiations Issues. The Lubniewice seminar once again confirmed the usefulness of such a project. The presentations, as well as questions and discussion, in and outside the conference rooms, proved to be both interesting and stimulating further research.

May 16th, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary received an award from the Student Parliament of the Poznan University of Economics in recognition of supporting student activity. From among about 1000 employees of PUE, students offered this award to 12 persons, including 5 professors.

May 11th, 2001 Prof. Wojciech Cellary attended the Symposium on Modern Economy and Public Administration, organized by the Cracow University of Economics. He presented a keynote speech on Electronic Economy and chaired a panel discussion on the current role of telecommunications in economy. Among others, two former vice-ministers of telecommunications participated in this panel discussion.
