December 16th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited to be a memeber of the Scientific Council of the e-Learning Institute in Lodz.

December 15th, 2005 Dr Wojciech Wiza participated in The 7th IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia ISM'2005 which took place in Irvine (CA, USA) from December 12th to December 14, 2005. Dr Wiza presented a paper entitled A Method of Holistic 3D Visualization of Arbitrarily Large Datasets (authors: W. Wiza, W. Cellary, K. Walczak).

December 14th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the working session of the Task Force Committee "Poland in European Union" at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

December 10th, 2005 Dr Jarogniew Rykowski gave lectures on Software Agent Technology to the students of the final year of the master program at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunication (Brest, France) in the framework of the SOCRATES ERASMUS Program.

November 25th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in The 3rd EU Ministerial e-Government Conference: Transforming Public Services, organized by the UK e-Government Unit and the European Commission's Information Society & Media Directorate?General, held on 24?25 November in Manchester (UK). The Conference brings together ministers and senior officials responsible for e-Government in EU Member States, European institutions and third countries, leading academics, and senior managers from industry. The Conference is one of the most important events in the calendar of the UK Presidency of the European Council. This year the conference focused on the impact and delivery of benefits for citizens and business by featuring achievements and examples of Good Practice in European e-Government and highlighting future challenges in e-Government in Europe. The event hosted also the eEurope Awards, a programme that recognises good practice and strong applications of e-Government from around Europe.

November 24th, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the 2nd INTUITION Workshop held in Senlis (France) from November 23rd to November 25th, 2005. The 2nd INTUITION Workshop was one of the biggest opportunities for Virtual Reality researchers to meet in Europe within 2005. The Workshop gathered the world?s VR experts and representatives from the biggest European Industries interested to VR and its many different application areas (Automotive, Aerospace, Energy, Telecom, Education etc). Dr. Walczak participated also in the meeting of the members of the Working Group 2.12. of the INTUITION project. The meeting was held in Paris on November 23rd, 2005.

November 14th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the Ministerial Conference - Towards a Knowledge Society: the Nordic Experience held in Goeteborg (Sweden) from November 14th to November 15th, 2005. Prof. Cellary served as a Chair of the Session eGovernment - Focus on Technology or Managerial Restructuring?. He was also a Moderator of the panel discussion ITC in the eGovernment: Do we need more?. The aim of the Conference was to contribute to one of the most pressing challenges currently faced by the European Union: to create a high productivity, high value-added, high employment economy using public funding, particularly EU Structural and other funds. Nordic countries provide excellent examples of best practice in using EU and other public funds to develop highly productive networks and partnerships between regions, researchers and business. They lead the World in competitiveness and progress towards a Knowledge Society. This performance is based on strong research and innovation, especially in ICT. They are home to world ICT leading companies and research centres. They lead the way in the application of new technologies in firms, in public services, and in society at large.

November 10th, 2005 The Department of Information Technology hosted Prof. Dr. Gottfried Vossen, Dean of The Muenster School of Business Administration and Economics. Prof. Vossen was acquainted with the current research activity of the Department, he gave also a seminar for our Department researchers.

November 9th, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology - VRST 2005, held in Monterey (California, USA) from November 7th to Novmeber 9th, 2005. Dr. Walczak presented a paper entitled Dynamic Creation of Interactive Mixed Reality Presentations (authors: K. Walczak, R. Wojciechowski).

November 8th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in The Global Forum on Shaping the Future held in Brussels from November 6th to November 8th, 2005. The Global Formu is an annual, independent international event dedicated to business and policy issues affecting the successful evolution of the Information & Knowledge Society. It is a high-profile international think tank, bringing together senior government officials, policymakers and industry leaders from Europe, North America, the Pacific Rim and Africa, the academia, and the civil society. November 8th, 2005 Mr. Miroslaw Stawniak participated in the International Conference - Virtual Retrospect 2005 held in Biarritz (France) from November 8th to November 10th, 2005. Mr. Stawniak presented a paper entitled Dynamic 3d Visualisation of Harris Matrix Data (authors: Stawniak, M., K. Walczak, B. Bobowski).

November 3rd, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary has been invited to serve as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Information Science and Technology - JIST. The JIST mission is to significantly expand the domain of information research to a wide and eclectic audience of academics, consultants and executives who are involved in the management of organizations either for competitive advantage or service delivery enhancement.

October 18th, 2005 Mr. Jacek Chmielewski participated in the Workshop on Future Challenges for Media Management and Monitoring organized by Fraunhofer IGD in Darmstadt (Germany) from October 17th to October 18th, 2005.

October 14th, 2005 Dr. Jarogniew Rykowski and Dr. Sergiusz Strykowski participated in The 3rd Polish Logistics Managers Forum which was held in Warsaw from October 13th to October 14th, 2005. During the conference Dr. Sergiusz Strykowski received an award for outstanding doctoral dissertation in the field of logistics and supply chain management, defended in 2004. His doctoral dissertation entitled Supply Chain Transformation under The Influence of Electronic Business Technologies was supervised by Prof. Wojciech Cellary. Dr. Jarogniew Rykowski presented a paper entitled Agent Technologies - Main Application Areas in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Relations with End-users.

October 12th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the Hessen e-Government Forum 2005 which was held in Frankfurt (Germany), at the Congress Center Messe, from October 10th to October 12th, 2005. Prof. Cellary was invited by the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region to be a member of an official delegation of the Wielkopolska Region as a partner region of the State of Hessen. Prof. Cellary gave a speech Regional Development Strategy and Development of e-Government in Wielkopolska. He also participated in many business meetings with Hessen authorities and businessmen. October 12th, 2005 Dr. Wojciech Wiza participated in the 8th Science and Culture Festival, organized jointly by all universities of Poznan, held in Poznan from October 12th to October 14th, 2005. Dr. Wiza gave a speech How to use a tridimention in the Internet?

October 7th, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the 11th International Conference on Virtual Systems and Multimedia VSMM 2005 which took place in Ghent (Belgium) from October 3rd to October 7th, 2005. The theme of the VSMM 2005 Conference was Virtual Reality's present or potential impact on 21st century society in the fields of Heritage, Education, Applied VR Technology, and Entertainment and the Arts. Dr. Walczak presented a paper entitled Image-based Photorealistic 3D Models for Virtual Museum Exhibitions (authors: Walczak, K., M. Stawniak, M. White, P. Kelleher).

October 6th, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the General Assembly of the partners of the European project INTUITION. The meeting took place in Stuttgart (Germany) from September 28 to September 30, 2005.

September 29th, 2005 Dr. Willy Picard participated in the 6th IFIP Working Conference on Virtual Enterprises PRO-VE 2005 which took place in Valencia (Spain) from September 26 to September 28, 2005. Dr. Picard presented a paper entitled Modeling Structured Non-monolithic Collaboration Processes.

September 17th, 2005 Dr Jarogniew Rykowski participated in The 4th International Central and Eastern European Conference on Multi-Agent Systems CEEMAS 2005, which took place in Budapest (Hungary) from September 15th to September 17th, 2005. Dr Rykowski presented a paper entitled ACE Agents - a New Look for Mass, Personalized Software Assistance.

September 9th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary gave an interview to the weekly Tygodnik Powszechny(No 38, September 18th, 2005). The interview, entitled The disaster on line focused on the role of the Internet in the communication between people during the hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orlean. September 7th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the Workshop The Integration of the New European Member States: the Contribution of ICT Policies and Technologies organized by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), a part of the European Commission. The Workshop has been organized as one of the thematic sessions of the 15th Annual Krynica Economic Forum, an event that gathered over 1500 representatives from government industry, research and NGOs from Eastern and Central Europe. July 7th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the inauguration meeting of the consortium Polish Cultural Heritage - Multimedia Center - created jointly by the Poznan University of Economics, the Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw University, Warsaw Academy of Arts, Polish National Museum, and Artefactory Ltd. The meeting was hosted by the Warsaw University. The main goal of the consortium is to disseminate Polish cultural heritage within VR technologies, to co-operate and to submit jointly proposals for Calls for Proposals in the framework of the European Union's Framework Programmes. During the meeting Prof. Cellary was elected a Vice-Chair of the Multimedia Center consortium.

June 29th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the debate SAP for Europe: UE market liberalisation - chance or necessity?, organized by SAP in Warsaw under the auspices of the Secretary of European Integration Committee, Jaroslaw Pietras.

June 23rd, 2005 Dr Sergiusz Strykowski participated in the national conference The Organization of the Didactic Process and Knowledge Management in Higher Education of Economics which was held on June 23, 2005 in Wroclaw University of Economics. The conference was organized by the Foundation for the Promotion and Accreditation of Economic Education and Academies of Economics from Katowice, Cracow, Poznan, Wroclaw together with Warsaw School of Economics from Warsaw. During the conference Dr Sergiusz Strykowski received a diploma as an one of 5 winners in the national contest for oustanding doctoral dissertations New Trends in Economy and Management Science, organized by the Foundation for the Promotion and Accreditation of Economic Education and the Polish Economic Society. For the contest 42 doctoral dissertations were submitted. Dr. Sergiusz Strykowski defended his doctoral dissertation entitled Supply Chain Transformation under The Influence of Electronic Business Technologies in July 2004.

June 20th, 2005 Dr Wojciech Wiza gave lectures on virtual reality for students of University of Oviedo (Spain) from June 13 to June 17, 2005 in the framework of the Socrates/Erasmus Programme.

June 20th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 3,5 day iExec Ed Training Workshop organized by CISCO Systems Inc., in Cairo (Egypte) from June 20 to June 22, 2005.

June 17th, 2005 A team of 4 students of the specialization Electronic Business of the Poznan University of Economics: Wojciech Chojnacki, Lidia Kownacka, Agnieszka Onuchowska and Piotr Posadzy won the Third Prize in the contest University Ernst & Young. In the contest could participate the last years students of Polish high schools, interested in application of information technologies for business purposes. Majority of teams represented technical universities, our team was a unique one from an university of economics. Since March to June 2005, the students attended the lectures given in the framework of the contest by the representatives of the Department of Technology and Security Risk Services of Ernst & Young. Selected teams was invited to participate in the final part of the contest which took place in Warsaw on June 17th, 2005. June 8th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 25th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems ICDCS 2005 which was held in Columbus (Ohio, USA) from June 6 to June 10, 2005. This was the 25th anniversary of DCS conferences. Prof. Cellary was a Vice-Program Chair of ICDCS'13 and a General Co-Chair of the 14th edition of the IDCS conference which was held in Poznan in 1994. This year Prof. Cellary was invited to attend a special session DCS - Past 25 Years, Next 25 Years. He served also as an International Liaison Co-Chair of the conference. June 7th, 2005 Results of the the sixth edition of the Golden Mouse Contest announced! The contest is addressed to the students of the 1st year of studies at the Management Faculty of the Poznan University of Economics. The purpose of the contest is to reward the best web site on business issues created by students. The main criteria of the evaluation were: business model, quality of design and technical reliability. The prizes (notebook HP Compaq, digital camera Canon PowerShot, monitor LCD and MP3 players) were founded by Bank Zachodni WBK S.A., the main sponsor of the contest. This year over 580 websites were submitted to the contest. The results were announced during the reward ceremony conducted by Dr. Wojciech Wiza, in the presence of the representatives of sponsors and the vice-president of the university, Prof. Marian Gorynia. The First Prize won Piotr Kulczycki for a web site ShopRadio System, the Second Prize went to Grzegorz Grajkowski for a web site Audiobook on your mobile phone, and the Third Prize to Hubert Paul for a web site Virtual Patient Record. June 7th, 2005 Dr. Jarogniew Rykowski participated in the 1st National Seminar on Management Systems in Intelligent Buildings - IB@Management which was held in Cracow. Dr. Rykowski presented a paper Software agents as brokers among devices and users of an intelligent building.

June 6th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited to visit the School of Management of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken (Ohio, USA). Prof. Cellary was a guest of Prof. Jerry Luftman, Associate Dean of the Institute. The main goal of the visit was to discuss an opportunity of co-operation between The Poznan University of Economics and Stevens Institute of Technology in the field of research and education.

May 27th, 2005 Dr. Willy Picard participated in the 9th International Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work in Design CSCWD 2005 which took place in Coventry (UK) from May 24 to May 26, 2005. Dr Picard presented a paper entitled DynG: Enabling Structured Non-Monolithic Electronic Collaboration.

May 25th, 2005 The Department of Information Technology hosted from May 24 to May 25 Prof. Bruno Defude from the National Institute of Telecommunications of Evry (France). Prof. Defude gave lectures in the framework of SOCRATES/ERASMUS Programme to the students following Electronic Business specialization. Prof. Defude had also an internal seminar for our department staff, presenting the results of scientific activity of his research team.

May 21st, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference Culture in the Strategy of Wielkopolska Province Development for years 2007-2020, organized in Pila by the Wielkopolska Cultural Society and Marshal of Wielkopolska Province. Prof. Cellary particicpated in the panel discussion on the role of culture in local development.

May 21st, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the local conference organized in Pila by Marshal of Wielkopolska Province for the representatives of local authorities. Prof. Cellary had an inauguration speech presenting main goals of a document entitled e-Wielkopolska - A Strategy for Information Society Development in Wielkopolska Province, which has been recently adopted by the local Parliament of Wielkopolska Province.

Dr. Picouet gave the lectures for III year students attending Electronic Business specialization, in the framework of SOCRATES/ERASMUS Programme.

May 18th, 2005 The Department of Information Technology hosted from May 10 to May 18, 2005 Dr. Martin Gonzalez Rodriguez from Department of Computer Science, Human Communication and Interaction Research Group, University of Oviedo (Spain). Dr Martin Gonzalez Rodriguez gave an invited, open lecture Human-Computer Interaction in Web Engineering: improving the accessibility and usability of web sites for all students of our University. He gave also the lectures for III year students following Electronic Business specialization. May 17th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference Cities in Development of Regions - Poznan in Wielkopolska Region Development which was held in Poznan. The conference was organized by the Marshal of Wielkopolska Province, the President of Poznan City and the Poznan University of Economics.

May 12th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 25th national conference Information Society in Polish Communities and Regions Development which was held in Miedzyzdroje from May 12 to May 14, 2005. Prof. Cellary had an inauguration lecture Role and Impact of Information Society in Local Development.

May 11th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary has been invited to join the Program Committee of the consortium Polish Cultural Heritage - Multimedia Center, created by Poznan University of Economics, Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw University, Warsaw Academy of Arts, National Museum, and Artefactory Ltd. The main goal of the consortium is to disseminate Polish cultural heritage within VR technologies. Dr Krzysztof Walczak has been invited to join the Working Group of the consortium.

April 29th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference Europe in Wielkopolska Province - Wielkopolska Province in Europe. First year of EU membership, organized in Poznan by the Governor of Wielkopolska Province and European Information Center of the Adam Mickiewicz University.

April 22nd, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in two international conferences: the 7th Virtual Reality International Conference VRIC 2005 and the First International VR-Learning Seminar, in conjuntion with the first one. The conferences took place in Laval (France) from April 20 to April 22, 2005. During the conferences dr. Krzysztof Walczak presented two papers: Mixed Reality for Interactive Learning of Cultural Heritage (authors: Wojciechowski, R., K. Walczak, W. Cellary) and Interactive Production of Dynamic 3D Sceneries for Virtual Television Studio (authors: Walczak, K., R. Wojciechowski, A. Wojtowicz). Dr. Walczak partipated also in two working meetings of the partners of the European project INTUITION. He presented the results of the work of the Department of Information Technology, involved actively in the project. Prof. Cellary presented a lecture Using Virtual and Augmented Reality for Building Virtual Museum Exhibitions - Results of the ARCO Project.

April 21st, 2005 Dr. Jarogniew Rykowski participated in the 2nd Language & Technology Conference: Human Language Technologies as a Challenge for Computer Science and Linguistics, which took place in Poznan from April 21 to April, 2005. Dr. Rykowski presented a paper entitled Using Software Agents to Personalize Natural-language Access to Internet Services in a Chatterbot Manner.

April 20th, 2005 The Department of Information Technology hosted Prof. Gregory Kersten from Concordia University (Montreal) and University of Ottawa, Canada. Prof. Kersten gave an invited lecture for EB students entitled Engineering of E-Negotiations.

March 30th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the debate organized by the biweekly New Economic Life. The debate focused on the relationship between business and higher business education. The conclusions of the discussion will be published in a next issue of the magazine.

March 22nd, 2005 On 22th of March 2005 at the Gdansk University of Technology took place the public defence of Mr. Wojciech Wiza doctoral dissertation entitled Three-dimensional Visualization of Search Results in the Internet. The thesis supervisor was Prof. Wojciech Cellary. The thesis was reviewed by Prof. Andrzej Goczyla and Prof. Jan Zabrodzki. The thesis was accepted and, unanimously, with distinction, the degree of doctor in computer science was awarded by the Board of Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the Gdansk University of Technology.

March 14th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the regional conference National Development Plan 2007-2013 and the Wielkopolska Province Development Strategy. The conference, organized by the Marshal of Wielkopolska Province, was a part of the general national discussion on NDP guidelines at the regional level. The National Development Plan 2007-2013 was presented by Prof. Jerzy Hausner, Vice Prime Minister. Prof. Cellary presented e-Wielkopolska - A Strategy for Information Society Development in Wielkopolska Province, a document recently adopted by the local Parliament of Wielkopolska Province.

March 14th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary gave an intervierw to the 1st Channel of the Polish Radio. He participated in the debate devoted to the problem of digital exclusion.

March 10th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited by Marshal of the City of Kolo to give a lecture on E-Wielkopolska - A Strategy for Information Society Development in Wielkopolska Province, a document recently passed by the Parliament of Wielkopolska Province. The speech was addressed to councilors of the City of Kolo.

March 5th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference on new media in art education which was held in Radziejowice from March 5th to March 6th, 2005. The conference was organized by The Warsaw Academy of Art. Prof. Cellary gave an invited lecture entitled Using Virtual and Augmented Reality for Building Virtual Museum Exhibitions - Results of the ARCO Project.

February 25th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference eXtensible Business Reporting Language, which took place in Warsaw. Prof. Cellary had a speach Application of IT for Financial Reporting - A Legal Status of Financial Statements Electronic Transfer.

February 16th, 2005 The Department of Information Technology hosted from February 14th to February 16th Prof. Claudia Bauzer Medeiros from the Institute of Computing of the University of Campinas (Brazil). Prof. Medeiros had an invited, open lecture A Collaborative Model for Agricultural Supply Chains for researchers and students of our University. She was acquainted with the current research activity of the Department, and she participated, as a consultant, in a seminar for students preparing their Master Thesis under supervision of Prof. Wojciech Cellary.

February 12th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference Global Information Society Education Forum which was held in Krzyzowa near Wroclaw from February 11th to February 12th, 2005. Prof. Cellary had an invited lecture A Role of Education in Transformation towards Global Information Society.

February 4th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Dr. Willy Picard participated in the Symposium on the Applications and the Internet SAINT 2005 which took place in Trento (Italy) from January 31st to February 4th, 2005. Prof. Cellary was a General Co-chair of the Programme Committee, he participated also in a panel discussion Future of Internet Applications. Dr Picard chaired a session Collaborative Systems. He was also a General Chair of the Workshop associated with SAINT E-business, E-negotiations and E-auctions and chaired a session on New Services and E-Market. January 27th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Dr. Sergiusz Strykowski participated in the conference Strategy for Information Society Development in Wielkopolska Province, organized in Poznan by the Local Democracy Development Fundation and the Research on Regional Economy Centre of the Poznan University of Economics. Prof. Cellary presented a document entitled E-Wielkopolska. A Strategy for Information Society Development in Wielkopolska Province.

January 18th, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the first working meeting of the partners of a consortium formed in order to prepare a proposal TELEREALITY for the 6th EU Framework Programme. The main goal of the meeting was to present the scientific and technological objectives of the project and its relevance to the objectives of the IST Priority. The partners of TELEREALITY consortium are: British Telecom (UK), Create Net (Italy), HHI Fraunhofer Institute (Germany), The Poznan University of Economics, The Queen Mary University (UK), Scuola Santa Anna Pisa (Italy) and Siemens/C-Lab Paderborn University (Germany). The meeting was held in Brussels.

January 14th, 2005 Dr. Sergiusz Strykowski participated in the conference eGovernment Information Day organised in Warsaw jointly by the Ministry of Scientific Research and Information Technology and the Polish IST National Contact Point. The Information Day was related to the 4th IST call for proposals. The conference provided a platform to present objectives of the call as well as to present project ideas to the audience. During the conference Dr. Strykowski met the representatives of a consulting company Karde AS and Norwegian Computing Center in order to discuss the possibility to form a consortium working on the call for proposals ICT Research for Innovative Government.

January 13th, 2005 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited by the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Province to join the Programme Committee working on the strategy of the Wielkopolska Province development for years 2007 to 2020.

January 12th, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak had a seminar entitled Application of Virtual and Augmented Reality Technologies for Virtual Museums - the Results of the European Project ARCO. The seminar was organized by the Institute of Computer Science of the Warsaw University of Technology in the framework of open scientific seminars on computer graphics, image processing and image recognition.

January 10th, 2005 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak received a two years grant from The Ministry of Scientific Research and Information Technology for his project entitled Dynamic Modeling of Behavior of Virtual Objects and Scenes.
