December 11th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was awarded by Krystyna Lybacka, the Minister of National Education and Sport, for his activity in the Council of Media and Informatics Education of the Ministry of National Education and Sport.

December 9th, 2003 Prof. Waldemar Wieczerzycki participated in the conference on E-Business organized in Poznan by the Polish Association of Economics. Prof. Wieczerzycki was a Programme Committee Member and Chair of two sessions. He presented also a paper entitled Agent Technology Application in e-Business.

December 8th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary attended a special eGovernment Advisory Meeting organized by the European Commission Information Society Directorate General. This meeting was to understand what the significant research challenges in eGovernment are for the coming years and what themes need priority support at European level from the academic, industrial and public administration community. December 4th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the plenary session of the Council of Media and Informatics Education at the Ministry of National Education and Sport.

December 3rd, 2003 Dr. Willy Picard was invited to give a guest lecture at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunication de Bretagne (ENST-Bretagne) in Brest (France). The lecture was simultaneously transmitted to Vannes (France), with the help of a video-conference system. The subject of the lecture was E-Negotiations: a Collaborative Approach. During this visit, potential research collaboration, as well as student exchanges, between the Poznan University of Economics and ENST-Bretagne have also been discussed. November 27th, 2003 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak and Mr. Jacek Chmielewski attended a working meeting of the partners of the European project ARCO which was held in Lewes (UK).

November 25th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited to join the Programme Committee of the IFIP Conference on E-commerce, E-business and E-government (I3E 2004). The conference is co-located with the IFIP World Computer Congress to be held on August 2004 in Toulouse (France).

November 24th, 2003 Mr Wojciech Wiza was invited to give a guest lecture at the Institute for Computer Science and Society (IIG) in Freiburg, Germany. The subject of the lecture was The PERISCOPE System. Mr Wiza has presented results of works related to three-dimensional interfaces for search result visualization.

November 21st, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited by Telcordia Technologies, Inc. to present a seminar entitled Interactive Multimedia Network Services for Education and Entertainment. The seminar was addressed to Telcordia's executive directors and high management and took place in Telcordia Headquarters in New York.

November 19th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in a Telcordia's closed workshop on Business and Regulatory Drivers for Investment in the Global Telecoms Industry, which took place in Williamsburg, Virginia (USA). The workshop was chaired by Dr. Robert Lucky, former Vice President of Applied Research at Telcordia Technologies. The workshop was conducted as a series of panels. Prof. Cellary participated in the panel Telecom Business Considerations.

November 6th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary has been invited to join the Program Committee for the Track B: Networked Enterprises of the BASYS 2004 - the 6th IFIP International Conference on Information Technology for Balanced Automation Systems in Manufacturing and Services. This Conference will be held in Vienna, Austria, on 27-29 September 2004.

November 5th, 2003 Dr. Jarogniew Rykowski participated in the IADIS International Conference WWW/Internet 2003 which was held from November 5 to November 8 in Algavre (Portugal). November 5th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary has been invited to join a Program Commitee of the IADIS International Conference on E-Society which will take place in July 2004, in Spain.

November 3rd, 2003 Dr Willy Picard participated in the meeting of the STIMENT EU Project. This project is one of the three strands of the European Community Initiative INTERREG III, designed to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union and interregional co-operation. The regions of Övre Norrland (Sweden), Lorraine (France), South Finland/Häme (Finland), Lombardia/Brescia (Italy) and Wielkopolska have commited themselves to perform the Regional Framework Operation (RFO) in order to stimulate new ways of Entrepreneurship in five European regions (STIMENT). The meeting was held in Metz (France).

October 15th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Rafal Wojciechowski participated in the 6th Science and Culture Festival, organized jointly by all universities of Poznan, held in Poznan form October 15 to October 18. October 8th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in a seminar on Education Management in Municipalities and Counties, organized by The Association of Wielkopolska Municipalities and Counties, one of the biggest regional organisations uniting municipalities located within the area of Poland. October 8th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in a panel discussion Why only some people achieve success? The discussion was organized for PUE students by the AIESEC Local Committe Poznan.

October 6th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited to join the Programme Committee of the 5th International Conference on Electronic Commerce and Web Technologies EC-WEB 2004, which will take place on Spetember 2004 in Zaragoza (Spain). EC-WEB 2004 is organized by the DEXA Association in parallel with the 15th International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications DEXA 2004.

October 6th, 2003 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak and Miroslaw Stawniak participated in the Museums Association Annual Conference and Exhibition MAACE 2003, which took place in Brighton (UK) from October 6 to October 7, 2003. The MA's annual conference and exhibition is the largest museum and gallery event in Europe. During the exhibition Dr. Walczak and Mr. Stawniak had a presentation Building Virtual Museum Exhibitions. They presented the ARCO system, which provides a one-stop solution for museums to increase access and involvement through the building and presentation of virtual exhibitions of their artefacts within the museum and over the Internet using virtual and augmented reality. September 25th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited to visit the Institute of Computing of the University of Campinas (Brasil). The Institute of Computing is UNICAMP's main teaching and research unit for the areas of information technology and theoretical computer science. September 24th, 2003 Dr. Jarogniew Rykowski participated in the 24th International Scientific School on Information Systems Architecture and Technology (Information Systems - Concepts, Tools and Applications) ISAT 2003 which was held in Szklarska Poreba from September 24 to September 26. September 21st, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 3rd IFIP International Conference on E-Commerce, E-Business and E-Government I3E2003, which was held in Sao Paulo (Brasil) from September 21 to September 24, 2003. The main goal of the conference was to provide a forum for users, engineers, and scientists in academia, industry, and government to present their latest findings in e-commerce, e-business, or e-government applications and the underlying technology to support those applications. September 6th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 13th Economic Forum The Enlargement of the European Union - the First or the Last Stage of Integration? which was held in Krynica-Zdroj from September 4th to September 6th, 2003. The annual Economic Forum is now widely recognized as most important meeting of politicians, business people and journalists from all over Central and Eastern Europe. The Forum's goal is still ensuring favorable environment and conditions for developing cooperation between different countries of our region. July 25th, 2003 Wojciech Wiza received a two year grant of the Ministry of Scientific Research and Information Technology (former State Committee for Scientific Research). He was granted for a project entitled Three-dimensional Visualization of Search Results in Internet.

July 23rd, 2003 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the International Conference on Electronic Imaging and the Visual Arts EVA 2003 which was held in London. During a workshop ARCH-IT Symposium Dr. Walczak had a presentation ARCO Database and Content Management Application. In the conference participated also Rafal Wojciechowski, currently a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Sussex. He had a presentation entitled ARCO - Augmented Reality Interface.

May 30th, 2003 Results of the the fourth edition of the Golden Mouse Contest announced! The contest is addressed to the students of the 1st year of studies at the Management Faculty of the Poznan University of Economics. The purpose of the contest is to reward the best web site on business issues created by students. The main criteria of the evaluation were: business model, quality of design and technical reliability. The prizes (computer COMPAQ with a monitor, palmtop HP, color printer and mobile phones) were founded by Bank Zachodni WBK S.A., TALEX SA and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa ERA GSM. This year over 700 web sites were submitted to the contest. The results were announced during the reward ceremony conducted by Prof. W. Cellary in the presence of the representatives of sponsors and the vice-president of the university, Prof. Marian Gorynia. May 20th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the working session of the Task Force Committee "Poland in European Union" at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The main goal of the task force committee is to discuss all aspects of the place of Poland in United Europe.

May 17th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the second session of the MOST Think Tank (Mobile and Open Society through wireless Telecommunications) which was held in Vilnius at the historic Senate Room of the Vilnius University. The main topic of the discussions and the title of the meeting was Mobile Technology for Democracy and Sustainable Growth. During the meeting a Lithuanian Focal Point of the MOST Network that is being established in Central and Eastern European countries was inaugurated by Prof. R. Gudauskas of the Vilnius University. May 15th, 2003 Oskar Huminiecki participated in the 5th International Conference on Virtual Reality VRIC 2003 which was held in Laval (France) from May 13 to May 16. He presented a paper entitled Graphical Authoring of 3D Virtual Scene Templates (authors: O. Huminiecki, K. Walczak, E. Boyle).

May 14th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary presented an invited lecture on the role of education in the global information society for participants of the conference New Challenges for Education which was held in Radom.

May 12th, 2003 Dr Krzysztof Walczak participated in a Panel of Experts to Evaluate Scientific Projects following Calls for Proposals under the 6th RTD Framework Programme. The Panel took place in Brussels.

May 9th, 2003 Prof. Waldemar Wieczerzycki gave the invited lectures on e-Commerce as a Visiting Professor at the University of Economics in Lisbon (Instituto Superior de Ciencas do Trabalho e da Empresa - ISCTE) form May 5th to May 9th. He gave the lectures in the framework of the ERASMUS SOCRATES Programme.

April 29th, 2003 Pawel Moch, a graduate of the Poznan University of Economics 2002, won the first prize in the national contest organized by the Insurance and Reinsurance Company "WARTA" S.A. for the best master thesis on insurances. Pawel Moch prepared the thesis entitled Realisation of Insurance Services in the Internet under the supervision of Prof. Wojciech Cellary. April 22nd, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited by Goslinskie Forum Prawicy to participate in the open discussion on the global information society. Prof. Cellary had an invited speech Global Information Society - a Challenge for Education.

April 9th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference Information Technologies in Education in Europe and the World, a satellite event at INFOSYSTEM FAIR. The conference was organized for high school and secondary level school teachers by Polish Computer Education Foundation and Poznan International Fair. January 27th, 2003 Rafal Wojciechowski has received a place as a Marie Curie Fellow at the Graduate Researche Centre in Engineering and Information Technology at University of Sussex, UK. Marie Curie Fellowships financed by European Commission provide European placements for pre-doctoral researchers. The duration of the stage is 4 months.

January 25th, 2003 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak and Rafal Wojciechowski participated at the working meeting of the partners of the European project ARCO, hosted by the Roman Palace and Gardens at Fishbourne and Victoria and Albert Museum at London.

January 21st, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference Information technology in the state administration; public orders and public-private partnerships (Informatyka w administracji panstwowej) organized in the framework of the 18th National Teleinformatics Exhibition COMPUTER EXPO 2003 in Warsaw. The exhibition's patrons are the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Education and Sport, the Chairman of the Committee for Scientific Research - Minister for Science, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, the Minister of National Defence, and the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers. January 20th, 2003 Prof. Wojciech Cellary gave an interwiev for Radio Bis on the problem of the social exclusion, so-called "digital divide", the major threat looming over the process of transformation towards an information society.
