December 13th, 2002 Mr. Willy Picard defended his Ph.D. dissertation entitled Multi-Facet Analalysis of E-Negotiaitions at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications de Paris. The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Wojciech Cellary.

December 11th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference Polish Small and Medium Size Entreprises versus European Integration, organized by the Polish Society of Economics. Prof. Cellary presented a paper entitled SME's in Electronic Economy.

November 25th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Mr. Willy Picard participated in the conference Inauguration of the 6th Framework Programme of the European Union organized by the State Committee for Scientific Research. The President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Aleksander Kwasniewski, has granted his Honorary Patronage to this event. The opening welcome was delivered by the Polish Minister of Science, Mr Michal Kleiber and the EU Commissioner for Research, Mr Philippe Busquin. November 20th, 2002 Prof. Cellary participated in the regional conference on Global Information Society in Poland organized by the Marshal Office of Dolny Slask Province and United Nations Development Programme. November 16th, 2002 Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the 23rd annual COMDEX Fall, the leading global technology marketplace, concluded Friday, November 22, 2002. The six-day event featured the usual COMDEX blend of innovation, education and opportunities to network with peers and witness cutting edge technologies. This year"s show began on Sunday, November 16th with a keynote address by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. November 13th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference European Union - invitation to competitiveness organized by Polish Confederation of Private Employers under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Aleksander Kwasniewski. November 7th, 2002 The Poznan University of Economics hosted a regional conference on Global Information Society in Poland organized by the Marshal Office of Wielkopolska Province and United Nations Development Programme. The theme was based on the United Nations Development Report Poland and the Global Information Society - Looging on. October 29th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the session of the Science, Education and Sport Committee of the Senate of the Republic of Poland devoted to the challenges of global information society for primary and secondary schools. In the session participated also the Vice-minister of National Education and Sport, Prof. Tomasz Goban-Klas, and Directors of Education Departments of Province Offices. October 28th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary has been nominated a member of the PUE Senat Committee for Research. Prof. Waldemar Wieczerzycki has been nominated a member of two Committies: for Equipment and for Intelectual and Industrial Property Protection.

October 4th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the ceremony of inauguration of the academic year 2002/2003 in our Alma Mater. During this ceremony he has been decorated with a Gold Cross of Merit by Krystyna Lybacka, Minister of National Education and Sport.

June 17th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary represented Poland at the General Assembly of United Nations in New York devoted to "Information and Communication Technologies for Development". The meeting was opened by Secretary-General Kofi Annan. In his opening address, the Secretary-General pointed to a growing consensus on the potential of ICT to promote economic growth, combat poverty eradication, and facilitate the integration of developing countries into the global economy. "Seizing the opportunities of the digital revolution is one of the most pressing challenges facing the international community," he said. "Yet, despite commendable efforts and various initiatives, we are still very far from ensuring that the benefits of ICT are available to all," Mr. Annan said. "The digital divide still yaws as widely as ever, with billions of people still unconnected to a global society which, on its side, is more and more wired." The Secretary-General said there was a real need for the many current initiatives around the world to come together, "united by a common purpose and common determination," and urged governments, civil society and the private sector to foster digital opportunities and to put ICT at the service of development. The Assembly convened the meeting to address the digital divide in the context of globalization and development, and to promote coherence and synergies between regional and international information and communication technologies initiatives. The event will also contribute to the preparation of the World Summit on the Information Society, which will be held in two phases in 2003 in Geneva and in 2005 in Tunis, and address the broad range of questions concerning the information society and seek a common vision and understanding of this societal transformation. May 28th, 2002 Results of the Golden Mouse Contest announced! This was the third edition of the contest entitled Golden Mouse open for students of the 1st year of studies at the Management Faculty of the Poznan University of Economics. The purpose of the contest is to reward the best web site on business issues created by students. The jury consisted of DIT members and representatives of business sponsors. The main criteria of the evaluation were: business model, quality of design and technical reliability. This year over 650 web sites were submitted. The prizes (notebook Presario, computer with a monitor, scanner, color printer, mice and mobile phones) were founded by Bank Zachodni WBK S.A. , TALEX SA and IDEA POP. The results were announced during the Reward Ceremony conducted by Prof. W. Cellary in the presence of the representatives of sponsors and the vice-president of the university, Prof. Jan Sobiech. May 17th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in The World Telecommunication Day (WTD), a prestigious event which, following many year's tradition, is organized by the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers in co-operation with the Ministry of Infrastructure. March 12th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference on the Internet and e-business in Small and Medium Enterprises E-Chance for SME's, organized by the Polish Confederation of Private Employers, which was held in Warsaw. The objective of the conference was to promote IT and e-business as a way to build new relationships with clients, to reduce costs and to improve competitiveness of SME's on the market. March 5th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the inauguration meeting of the Think Tank of the MOST Programme. The MOST (Mobile Open Society through Wireless Communications) initiative aims at setting up a regional mechanism that will help organize cooperation between universities, wireless telecom providers and content providers operating in Central Europe and boost the development of civic societies. The Think Tank will provide strategic advise on the scope, coverage and implementation strategy of the MOST Programme in the context of the trends occurring on the Information and Communications Technology world scene. The members of the Think Tank are distinguished managers, practitioners and researchers in the field of mobile communications, including wireless telecommunication services, education, media, governance, and business. January 29th, 2002 Prof. Wojciech Cellary and Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in the international conference on Applications and the Internet SAINT'2002, co-sponsored by the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) and the IEEE Computer Society (IEEE-CS). The conference was held in Nara (Japan). This conference focuses on Internet applications that are considered novel and timely.
