October 14th, 2008

The Department of Information Technology hosted prof. Sheng-Tzong Cheng from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Cheng‐Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan. Prof. Cheng also serves as the vice director of the Quantum Computing Research Center in NCKU. His research interests include design and performance analysis of mobile computing, wireless communications, multimedia, quantum computing, and real‐time systems.

October 10th, 2008

Dr. Wojciech Wiza participated in the 5th INTUITION International Conference “Virtual Realit in Industry and Society: from research to application”, which was held October 6-8, 2008, in Turin, Italy. The Conference iwas organised by the INTUITION Network of Excellence, a Network of 58 organizations (Universities, Research Centres, Associations, Industries) from 15 European countries focusing on Virtual Reality and Virtual Environments applications for future workspaces. Dr Wiza partipated also in INTUITION Review Meeting held October 9-10 in Turin.

Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in The 8th IFIP International Conference on e-Business, e-Services and e-Society i3E 2008 which took place in Tokyo from September 24 to September 26th, 2008. Prof. Cellary served as a member of two Committees: Stearing Committee and Liaison Committe. Prof. Cellary also visited The United Nations University in Tokyo, he was hosted by Vice Rector, Prof. Govindan Parayil, Dr. Srikantha Herath, Senior Academic Programme Officer, and Dr. Tomasz Janowski, Senior Research Fellow, UNU-IIST and Head of the Center for Electronic Governance at UNU-IIST. The main goal of the wisit was to discuss a common initiative to establish a UNU Institute on Electronic Governance in Poznan.

Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 14th Forum of Teleinformatics which was held in Legionowo, September 18-19, 2008. Prof. Cellary gave a lecture “Beyond limits – integrated e-services for administration and business”. He served also as a member of the jury of the Marek Car Award 2008 – as a laureate 2007.

Prof. Wojciech Cellary gave an invited lecture entitled “New electronic methods in teaching” for teachers from Konin region.

September 11th, 2008

The Depertment of Information Technology hosted The 9th IFIP Working Conference on Virtual Enterprises PRO-VE 2008, which was held form September 8th to September 10th. Almost 90 participants coming from 20 countries attended the conference. During several sessions 66 selected papers were presented and published in conference proceedings edited by Springer. In the framework of the PRO-VE conference three co-related events were organized: Workshop on Collaborative Virtual Museum, Special Session on Networking Mobile Virtual Knowledge, and Brainstorming Session entitled Collaborative Networks in Extending Active Life of Retired Professionals.

Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited to visit Telcordia Technologies Inc, in Piscataway (NY, USA). Prof. Cellary was a guest of Dr. Marek Rusinkiewicz, Vice-President of Telcordia Technologies. During the visit prof. Cellary discussed the preparation of joint proposals to be submitted to the 7th Research Framework Program of the European Union. He also discussed the collaboration on the join R&D initiatives between Telcordia Poland and the Department of Information Technology in the areas of network security, telematics and healthcare informatics. Prof. Cellary gave also a seminar for Telcordia research staff presenting current results of research of the Department of Information Technology. He met also many researchers from the following departments: Universal Platform for Telematics Applications, Automotive Networking and Telematics, Telematics Standards Activities, End-to-End Security for Vehicular Networking. The visit lasted from August 27 to September 6th, 2008.

Dr. Jarogniew Rykowski was invited to join the Interdisciplinary Group for International Cooperation – an advisory body to the Minister for Science and Higher Education.

Dr. Wojciech Wiza visited the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. He presented the ARCO virtual museum technology for museums which enables to create 3D Virtual Exhibitions on the Web.

Dr Krzysztof Walczak participated in two international conferences: The 13th International Symposium on Web 3D Technology Web3D'08 (August 9-10, 2008) and The 35th SIGGRAPH Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (August 11-15, 2008). The conferences took place in Los Angeles, California, USA. During the Web3D'08 conference Dr Walczak presented a paper entitled Structured Design of Interactive VR Applications.
