December 13, 2017

The Department of Information Technology hosted representatives of the Laval Virtual Center (Laval, France): Ismael Boucher, International Liason Officer, with two Laval Virtual Center employees. The visit was a part of the European Virtual Reality Tour initiative organized by the Laval Virtual center and the European EuroVR association. The aim of this initiative is to get to know all European centers and institutes dealing with virtual and augmented reality. Visitors visited the VR / AR InnoUEP laboratory and familiarized themselves with the current research topic of the DIT in the field of virtual reality.

Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the conference entitled "Responsible Research and Innovation - science for society and the economy" organized by the Adam Mickiewicz University in the framework of the DIALOG program, financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Prof. Cellary participated as a panelist in the session entitled "New technologies and responsible research".

Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in an international conference The 5th Global Conference on Cyberspace 2017 - Cyber4All: A Safe, Secure and Inclusive Cyberspace for Sustinable Development, which took place in New Delhi (India). The organizer of the conference, which was the The Ministry of Electronics on Information Technology invited prof. Cellarem to serve as co-chairman of the doctoral colloquium held on November 25, 2017. The academic partner of Doctoral Colloquium was The India Institute of Technology from New Delhi. Prof. Cellary gave a lecture entitled "What is the difference between science and non-science, or how to produce a proper doctoral thesis" addressed to doctoral students and researchers.

Jakub Flotyński,PhD, Sergiusz Strykowski, PhD, Jacek Sokołowski, MSc, and a group of 6 students participating in research and presentations at the VR/AR Laboratory: Jakub Dziekoński, Stanisław Kamiński, Marcin Krzyszkowski, Mikołaj Maik, Adrian Nowak and Paweł Sobociński participated in the conference European VR/AR Congress 2017, held at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw. Participants learned about the latest virtual reality technologies and their practical applications.

The Department of Information Technology hosted Zbigniew Paszkiewicz, PhD, a graduate of WIGE and former employee of KTI, currently working in the Belgian branch of PwC (PriceWaterhouse & Coopers) in Brussels. Dr. Zbigniew Paszkiewicz gave in Polish an open lecture entitled "Process Intelligence" for WIGE employees and students of Computer Science and Econometrics, and a lecture under the same title for students of the Internet of Things Applications. In addition, he gave a lecture in English "Process Intelligence" for foreign students studying at UEP in the framework of the Erasmus program.

Jakub Flotyński, PhD, completed his research internship at the Laboratoire d'Informatique pour la Mécanique et les Sciences de l'Ingénieur (LIMSI) à l'Université Paris-Sud in Paris, where he stayed from October 23, 2017 to November 17, 2017. LIMSI is one of the most prestigious institutes in Europe dealing in research in the field of virtual and augmented reality. Jakub Flotyński worked under supervision prof. Patrick Bourdot, director of the VENISE group (Virtual & augmented ENvironments for Simulation & Experiments) and a recognized specialist in the field of virtual and augmented reality.

This year's WIGE graduate on Computer Science and Econometrics, Miłosz Bambrowicz, took first place in the competition for the best diploma thesis related to the Jarocińska Land. Miłosz Bambrowicz wrote his master thesis entitled "The use of mobile applications in urban games on the example of theJarocińska Rewolucja game" under the direction of prof. Jarogniew Rykowski. The prize of PLN 1,500 was presented to the winners by the Mayor of Jarocin City during the solemn session of the City Council. The Mayor of Jarocin City has expressed his readiness to implement the application in order to promote among residents and tourists the participation of soldiers from Jarocin land in the Greater Poland Uprising.

Adam Wójtowicz, PhD, participated in the international Euro - CASE 2017 conference organized in Poznań by the Poznań Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center. The conference was dedicated to global cyber security issues, threats and current trends of protection of the Internet of Things, security in education, in the private and public sectors.

Jarogniew Rykowski, PhD, participated as an expert in the doctoral workshop The 4th Workshop for Doctoral Students and Young Researchers in Information Technology, which took place in Kazimierz Dolny from November 3 to 5, 2017. The workshop was organized by the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw.
