The Department of Information Technology (DIT) is part of the Faculty of Informatics and e-Economy of the Poznan University of Economics and Business. The Department is composed of 14 members: 1 full professor, 3 associate professors, 1 assistant professors, 1 senior lecturer and 8 research assistants. The Department also takes care of 2 Ph.D. students. The research members have technical qualifications in computer science and engineering. The head of DIT is Professor Krzysztof Walczak. Prof. Wojciech Cellary was invited to serve as a keynote speaker at the 1st Symposium on Business Informatics in Central and Eastern Europe which will take place in Vienna within February 25-27, 2009, in conjunction with the 9th International Business Informatics Conference.

October 25th, 2008

Dr. Krzysztof Walczak participated in The 14th International Conference on Virtual Systems and MultiMedia VSMM’08, which was held in Limassol (Cyprus) within October 20-25, 2008. Dr. Walczak presented a paper entitled "VR-BML: Behaviour Modelling Language for Configurable VR Applications", which received the 2nd Best Full Paper Award. Dr. Walczak also chaired two plenary sessions: "Image Analysis and Reconstruction" and "ICT in CH Museums". Dr. Walczak participated - as a member - in a working meeting of the Board of The International Society on Virtual Systems and Multimedia VSMM.

Dr, Wojciech Wiza participated in the INTUITION Knowledge Base Meeting which was held in Malaga (Spain) from October 21st to October 22nd, 2008. "Knowledge Base" is a wiki-based website, providing a place for the virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) commmunity to gather and exchange information and knowledge. This has been developed by the network of excellence on virtual reality and virtual environments for future workplaces (INTUITION).

Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in a working session of the Scientific Council of the Institut TELECOM (former Groupe des Ecoles des Télécommunications), bringing in the most prestigious French higher schools in the field of of information and communication science and technology: TELECOM ParisTech, TELECOM Bretagne, TELECOM SudParis, TELECOM Ecole de Management, TELECOM Lille1, and Institut Eurecom. Prof. Cellary has been served as a member of Scientific Council of the Institut TELECOM since 2006. The session was held in Paris.

The Department of Information Technology hosted The 6th IFIP International Workshop for Technical, Economic and Legal Aspects of Business Models for Virtual Goods VG’08 and The 4th International ODRL Workshop. The conferences were held from October 16th to October 18th in Main Building of Poznan University of Economics. The participants came from Germany, French Polynesia, South Africa and Poland. The conference Virtual Goods was organized under Honorable Patronage of PUE Rector and Mayor of the City of Poznan.

Dr. hab. Jarogniew Rykowski received PUE Rector Award for oustanding research achievements in academic year 2007/2008. He was awarded for an habilitation disertation entitled Personalized Access to Heterogeneous Distributed Information Sources by Means of Software Agents.

The Department of Information Technology hosted prof. Sheng-Tzong Cheng from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Cheng‐Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan. Prof. Cheng also serves as the vice director of the Quantum Computing Research Center in NCKU. His research interests include design and performance analysis of mobile computing, wireless communications, multimedia, quantum computing, and real‐time systems.

Dr. Wojciech Wiza participated in the 5th INTUITION International Conference “Virtual Realit in Industry and Society: from research to application”, which was held October 6-8, 2008, in Turin, Italy. The Conference iwas organised by the INTUITION Network of Excellence, a Network of 58 organizations (Universities, Research Centres, Associations, Industries) from 15 European countries focusing on Virtual Reality and Virtual Environments applications for future workspaces. Dr Wiza partipated also in INTUITION Review Meeting held October 9-10 in Turin.

Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in The 8th IFIP International Conference on e-Business, e-Services and e-Society i3E 2008 which took place in Tokyo from September 24 to September 26th, 2008. Prof. Cellary served as a member of two Committees: Stearing Committee and Liaison Committe. Prof. Cellary also visited The United Nations University in Tokyo, he was hosted by Vice Rector, Prof. Govindan Parayil, Dr. Srikantha Herath, Senior Academic Programme Officer, and Dr. Tomasz Janowski, Senior Research Fellow, UNU-IIST and Head of the Center for Electronic Governance at UNU-IIST. The main goal of the wisit was to discuss a common initiative to establish a UNU Institute on Electronic Governance in Poznan.

Prof. Wojciech Cellary participated in the 14th Forum of Teleinformatics which was held in Legionowo, September 18-19, 2008. Prof. Cellary gave a lecture “Beyond limits – integrated e-services for administration and business”. He served also as a member of the jury of the Marek Car Award 2008 – as a laureate 2007.
